Billing & Payments
Vendor landscape for coworking billing and payments: 14 gateways and payment platforms sitting beneath the invoicing logic of a coworking OS.
Category note: Billing logic — invoicing, proration, booking credits, dunning — lives in your coworking platform (CAT-11); this page is the gateway layer beneath it, and your platform constrains the menu. Nexudus supports 100+ providers (via the Spreedly orchestration layer) plus custom hosted payment pages for regional gateways; Cobot integrates Stripe, GoCardless and PayPal rather than storing cards itself; OfficeRnD captures cards in its own PCI-compliant form and charges Stripe or GoCardless underneath. So check your platform's gateway list before falling in love with a provider. Two structural insights: (1) direct debit beats cards on recurring revenue — memberships are subscriptions, and bank debit (GoCardless at ~1% capped, Stripe ACH) costs a fraction of the ~2.9-3.5% card fees; most platforms let you run one direct-debit gateway alongside card options, so the common pattern is direct debit for memberships, cards for day passes and bookings. (2) Wallets are not gateways — Alipay and WeChat Pay are consumer wallets you accept through a gateway (Stripe, Adyen, Opn, 2C2P) outside China, but effectively mandatory direct merchant integrations for operators inside mainland China. Bootstrapping without a platform? Stripe Payment Links and Billing carry many small operators solo — see the DIY stack in CAT-25. Accounting sync is CAT-17.
Vendors
Global card & bank payment gateways
| Vendor | Origin | Markets Served | Segment | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stripe | United States / Ireland | Global (40+ countries) | SMB-Enterprise | The coworking default — first-class support in effectively every management platform; Payment Links and Billing also carry platform-less operators (CAT-25). |
| GoCardless | United Kingdom (London) | UK / Europe / US / AUS / CAN | SMB-Mid | Bank-debit specialist (BACS, SEPA, ACH, BECS/PayTo, PAD) at ~1% capped — the recurring-membership fee-saver; native in Nexudus, OfficeRnD, Cobot. |
| PayPal | United States (San Jose) | Global | SMB-Enterprise | The member-familiarity wallet + gateway; higher fees (~3.5%), better as a checkout option than a recurring engine. Braintree is its developer-gateway arm. |
| Adyen | Netherlands (Amsterdam) | Global | Enterprise | Unified-commerce platform on interchange++ pricing; hundreds of local methods (incl. Alipay/WeChat acceptance). Not native in coworking platforms — for large operators with custom stacks. |
| Square | United States (Block) | US / UK / AUS / JP / CA / EU (select) | SMB | The in-person answer: POS hardware + payments; Nexudus's ePOS app runs natively on Square — the coworking café and front-desk play. |
| Worldpay | United Kingdom / United States | Global | Mid-Enterprise | Enterprise acquirer, Nexudus-native card gateway. Acquired by Global Payments (Jan 2026, $24.25B from FIS/GTCR) — now part of a 6M-merchant pure-play giant. |
| Authorize.net | United States (Visa) | Primarily US / CA / UK / EU / AUS | SMB-Mid | The US legacy gateway (Visa-owned); Nexudus-native. Common for US operators with existing merchant accounts; monthly gateway fee model. |
Asia-Pacific gateways
| Vendor | Origin | Markets Served | Segment | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Xendit | Indonesia (Jakarta) | SEA (ID, PH, MY, TH, VN, SG) + HK | SMB-Enterprise | Southeast Asia's leading gateway: 100+ local methods (virtual accounts, QRIS, PromptPay, e-wallets, OTC) with recurring billing; the regional default where Stripe's local coverage is thin. |
| Razorpay | India (Bengaluru) | India (+ SEA expansion) | SMB-Enterprise | India's default gateway — UPI, cards, netbanking, wallets, subscriptions at ~2% domestic; the entry point for one of coworking's largest growth markets. |
| Opn Payments | Thailand (Bangkok) | TH / JP / SG / MY / SEA | SMB-Mid | Formerly Omise. Thai-origin gateway with deep local rails (PromptPay, Thai mobile banking, TrueMoney, Rabbit LINE Pay); expanding across SEA and Japan. |
| 2C2P | Singapore | Pan-Asia / global corridors | Enterprise | Pan-Asian enterprise payments platform (majority-owned by Ant Group) with 400,000+ over-the-counter points; quote-based, contract-led — for larger regional operators. |
| HitPay | Singapore | SG / SEA | SMB | The Singapore SMB all-in-one: PayNow from 0.65%, no monthly fee, payment links, POS and online checkout in one account. |
Chinese wallets
| Vendor | Origin | Markets Served | Segment | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alipay | China (Ant Group, Hangzhou) | China + global acceptance | All | 1B+ user wallet. Inside mainland China: an effectively mandatory direct merchant integration (cards are marginal). Elsewhere: accepted via Stripe, Adyen, Opn or 2C2P for Chinese members and guests. |
| WeChat Pay | China (Tencent, Shenzhen) | China + global acceptance | All | The other mandatory mainland rail, embedded in WeChat; QR-first, and WeChat mini-programs often double as the booking front-end in Chinese coworking. Same dual framing as Alipay abroad. |
Vendor Detail
Stripe
- Origin: United States / Ireland (dual HQ: San Francisco, Dublin)
- Markets served: Global (40+ countries)
- Segment: SMB-Enterprise
- Notes: The coworking industry's default gateway — effectively every management platform (Nexudus, OfficeRnD, Cobot, Optix, Spacebring, Archie) supports it first-class, including Stripe ACH direct debit for US operators. Equally important at the other end of the scale: Payment Links, Invoicing and Stripe Billing give bootstrapping operators recurring membership billing with no platform at all — the most common early billing mechanism (cross-listed in CAT-25). Stripe Terminal covers in-person. Coverage caveat for Asia: local-method support in ID/PH/VN/TH lags the regional specialists below.
- Website: stripe.com
- Pricing model: Per-transaction, no monthly fee: ~2.9% + $0.30 US online cards (rates vary by country, e.g. ~3.4% + S$0.50 in Singapore); ACH debit cheaper; Billing/Invoicing tiers add small percentages.
- Key integrations: Native in effectively all coworking platforms (CAT-11); Softr/Jotform/Tally (CAT-25); Xero/QuickBooks (CAT-17); massive API ecosystem.
- Compliance / certs: PCI DSS Level 1; SOC 1/2; SCA/3DS2.
- Research status: Researched
GoCardless
- Origin: United Kingdom (London)
- Markets served: UK / Europe / US / Australia / Canada / NZ
- Segment: SMB-Mid
- Notes: The recurring-membership fee-saver: a bank-debit specialist covering BACS (UK), SEPA (EU), ACH (US), BECS/PayTo (AUS) and PAD (Canada). At ~1% with a fee cap, a membership-heavy operator saves meaningfully versus card rates — the classic pattern is GoCardless for monthly memberships, a card gateway for everything else. Native integrations in Nexudus, OfficeRnD and Cobot. Trade-offs: settlement takes days not seconds, and open-banking instant payments are UK/EU only; Success+ retries failed payments automatically.
- Website: gocardless.com
- Pricing model: ~1% + small fixed fee per transaction, capped (e.g. £0.20 + cap ~£4 UK domestic; varies by market and plan); no card fees, no monthly minimum on standard plans.
- Key integrations: Nexudus, OfficeRnD, Cobot (native); Xero, QuickBooks, Sage (CAT-17); Zapier; API.
- Compliance / certs: FCA-authorised (UK); Bacs/SEPA scheme compliance; ISO 27001.
- Research status: Researched
PayPal
- Origin: United States (San Jose)
- Markets served: Global (200+ markets)
- Segment: SMB-Enterprise
- Notes: The member-familiarity play — some members simply prefer paying with the wallet they already trust, and guest checkout converts well for day passes and event tickets. Natively supported by Nexudus and Cobot. Less suited as the recurring engine: fees run higher than cards elsewhere (~3.5%), and disputes/holds are a known operator friction. Its developer-gateway arm, Braintree, serves custom enterprise integrations but has no visible coworking-platform presence.
- Website: paypal.com
- Pricing model: ~3.49% + fixed fee for US online transactions (varies by market and product); no monthly fee on standard accounts.
- Key integrations: Nexudus, Cobot (native); Jotform/e-commerce tools; wallet + card processing in one.
- Compliance / certs: PCI DSS Level 1; regulated e-money/payment licenses per market.
- Research status: Researched
Adyen
- Origin: Netherlands (Amsterdam)
- Markets served: Global
- Segment: Enterprise
- Notes: The enterprise unified-commerce platform: single integration for online, in-person and platform payments with hundreds of local methods worldwide (including Alipay and WeChat Pay acceptance). Interchange++ pricing is typically cheaper than blended rates at volume but requires scale to access — and no coworking management platform integrates it natively, so it appears in coworking only inside large multi-location operators' custom stacks (think IWG-scale, not independent spaces).
- Website: adyen.com
- Pricing model: Interchange++ plus ~€0.13 processing fee per transaction; volume commitments; no setup/monthly fees but enterprise onboarding.
- Key integrations: API-first; e-commerce and POS platforms; not native in coworking platforms (custom integration only).
- Compliance / certs: PCI DSS Level 1; EU banking license; local acquiring licenses worldwide.
- Research status: Researched
Square
- Origin: United States (Block, Inc., San Francisco)
- Markets served: US / UK / Australia / Japan / Canada / select EU
- Segment: SMB
- Notes: The in-person answer for coworking: card readers, terminals and full POS for the café, front desk, events and merch — and Nexudus's ePOS app runs natively on Square in kiosk or staffed modes, tying café sales into member accounts. Square Invoices and Appointments also serve platform-less operators (a CAT-25-adjacent pattern). Weaker fit as the core membership gateway outside its supported countries.
- Website: squareup.com
- Pricing model: ~2.6% + $0.10 in-person, ~2.9% + $0.30 online (US rates; vary by country); hardware purchased separately; no monthly fee on standard.
- Key integrations: Nexudus ePOS (native); accounting sync (CAT-17); e-commerce; hardware ecosystem.
- Compliance / certs: PCI DSS Level 1.
- Research status: Researched
Worldpay
- Origin: United Kingdom / United States
- Markets served: Global (175+ countries)
- Segment: Mid-Enterprise
- Notes: One of the world's largest merchant acquirers and a Nexudus-native card gateway. Ownership news operators should know: Global Payments completed its $24.25B acquisition of Worldpay from FIS and GTCR in January 2026, creating a pure-play merchant giant serving 6M+ merchant locations and $3.7T in annual volume — product roadmaps and account management are consolidating under the new owner. Quote-based enterprise pricing; strongest fit for larger UK/global operators with acquiring relationships.
- Website: worldpay.com
- Pricing model: Custom / quote-based merchant acquiring; SMB packages exist in some markets.
- Key integrations: Nexudus (native card gateway); broad e-commerce and POS ecosystems.
- Compliance / certs: PCI DSS Level 1; acquiring licenses across markets.
- Research status: Researched
Authorize.net
- Origin: United States (Visa-owned)
- Markets served: Primarily US; also CA / UK / EU / AUS
- Segment: SMB-Mid
- Notes: The long-standing US gateway (Visa-owned via its acquiring stack) and a Nexudus-native option. Its model differs from Stripe's: a monthly gateway fee plus per-transaction pricing, either bundled (all-in) or gateway-only on top of your existing merchant account — which is exactly why US operators with legacy merchant accounts choose it. Feature set is dependable rather than modern; recurring billing supported.
- Website: authorize.net
- Pricing model: ~$25/mo gateway fee + ~2.9% + $0.30 all-in, or ~$0.10/transaction gateway-only over an existing merchant account.
- Key integrations: Nexudus (native); broad shopping-cart/gateway ecosystem.
- Compliance / certs: PCI DSS Level 1.
- Research status: Researched
Xendit
- Origin: Indonesia (Jakarta)
- Markets served: Southeast Asia (ID, PH, MY, TH, VN, SG) + Hong Kong
- Segment: SMB-Enterprise
- Notes: Southeast Asia's leading payment infrastructure: one integration covering 100+ local methods — virtual accounts, QRIS, PromptPay (at a market-leading ~0.8% in Thailand), e-wallets, and over-the-counter payments — with subscription/recurring billing and payment links. The regional answer where Stripe's local-method coverage is thin (notably Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam). Coworking-platform note: no native connectors found in the major platforms — integration runs via Nexudus custom hosted payment pages or API (unconfirmed per platform).
- Website: xendit.co
- Pricing model: Per-method transaction pricing (e.g. local cards ~3.2%, PromptPay ~0.8% in TH); no setup or monthly fees.
- Key integrations: API, payment links, e-commerce plugins; coworking platforms via hosted payment pages (unconfirmed per platform).
- Compliance / certs: PCI DSS Level 1; licensed per market (incl. MAS Major Payment Institution, Singapore).
- Research status: Researched
Razorpay
- Origin: India (Bengaluru)
- Markets served: India (+ Southeast Asia expansion)
- Segment: SMB-Enterprise
- Notes: India's default payment gateway — UPI (the rail that dominates Indian payments), cards, netbanking, wallets and EMI in one integration, with subscription billing for recurring memberships. India is one of coworking's largest growth markets, making this the obvious regional entry. As with Xendit, coworking-platform connectors are not native — API or hosted-page integration (unconfirmed per platform).
- Website: razorpay.com
- Pricing model: ~2% per domestic transaction standard (higher for international cards/EMI); no setup or monthly fees on standard plans.
- Key integrations: UPI, cards, netbanking, wallets; subscriptions; API and e-commerce plugins.
- Compliance / certs: PCI DSS Level 1; RBI payment-aggregator license.
- Research status: Researched
Opn Payments
- Origin: Thailand (Bangkok; formerly Omise)
- Markets served: Thailand / Japan / Singapore / Malaysia / SEA expansion
- Segment: SMB-Mid
- Notes: Thai-origin gateway with the deepest local rails at home — PromptPay (~1.65%), Thai mobile and internet banking, TrueMoney, Rabbit LINE Pay, Alipay/WeChat acceptance — now expanding across Southeast Asia and Japan. Developer-friendly APIs and e-commerce plugins; fee reductions are negotiable on volume. The natural pick for Thailand-based operators wanting local payment methods a global gateway won't carry.
- Website: opn.ooo
- Pricing model: ~3.65% cards / ~1.65% PromptPay in Thailand (negotiable on volume); no monthly fee on standard plans.
- Key integrations: API-first; e-commerce plugins; Alipay/WeChat acceptance; coworking platforms via API/hosted pages (unconfirmed).
- Compliance / certs: PCI DSS Level 1; licensed in operating markets.
- Research status: Researched
2C2P
- Origin: Singapore (HQ)
- Markets served: Pan-Asia with global corridors
- Segment: Enterprise
- Notes: The pan-Asian enterprise payments platform — majority-owned by Ant Group since 2022 — with reach newer players can't match: 400,000+ over-the-counter payment points across the region, omnichannel acceptance, mass payouts and cross-border acquiring, serving airlines, retail and hospitality at scale. Contract-led with no self-serve onboarding, so it fits larger regional operators, not independents.
- Website: 2c2p.com
- Pricing model: Custom / quote-based; enterprise contract cycle.
- Key integrations: Omnichannel acceptance incl. cards, wallets, OTC; Alipay/WeChat; API.
- Compliance / certs: PCI DSS Level 1; licensed across Asian markets.
- Research status: Researched
HitPay
- Origin: Singapore
- Markets served: Singapore / Southeast Asia
- Segment: SMB
- Notes: The Singapore small-operator favorite: one no-monthly-fee account covering PayNow from a market-leading ~0.65%, cards, payment links, online checkout and POS. For a single-location Singapore space, HitPay plus the coworking platform's Stripe integration is a common lean setup — PayNow for local members, cards for everyone else.
- Website: hitpayapp.com
- Pricing model: Per-transaction only (PayNow from ~0.65%; cards at market rates); no monthly or setup fees.
- Key integrations: PayNow, cards, SEA e-wallets; e-commerce plugins; POS; API.
- Compliance / certs: PCI DSS Level 1; MAS-regulated (Singapore).
- Research status: Researched
Alipay
- Origin: China (Ant Group, Hangzhou)
- Markets served: Mainland China + global acceptance network
- Segment: All
- Notes: A consumer super-app wallet with over a billion users — not a merchant gateway in the Western sense, which is exactly the taxonomy point. For operators inside mainland China, a direct Alipay merchant integration is effectively mandatory: cards are marginal and daily commerce runs on wallet QR rails. For operators elsewhere, Alipay is a payment method you switch on through your existing gateway (Stripe, Adyen, Opn, 2C2P) to serve Chinese members, visiting teams and tourists. Alipay+ extends cross-border acceptance to partner wallets across Asia.
- Website: alipay.com
- Pricing model: Domestic merchant rates ~0.6% (China); via international gateways, priced by the gateway.
- Key integrations: Direct merchant APIs (China); acceptance via Stripe, Adyen, Opn Payments, 2C2P internationally.
- Compliance / certs: PBOC-regulated (China); partner-gateway compliance abroad.
- Research status: Researched
WeChat Pay
- Origin: China (Tencent, Shenzhen)
- Markets served: Mainland China + global acceptance network
- Segment: All
- Notes: The other mandatory mainland rail — payments embedded in WeChat, the app Chinese professional life runs on. Same dual framing as Alipay: direct merchant integration is table stakes inside China, gateway-enabled acceptance elsewhere. Coworking-specific angle: in China, WeChat mini-programs commonly double as the space's booking and member front-end, making WeChat Pay the natural checkout inside that experience rather than a bolt-on.
- Website: pay.weixin.qq.com
- Pricing model: Domestic merchant rates ~0.6% (China); via international gateways, priced by the gateway.
- Key integrations: WeChat mini-programs; direct merchant APIs (China); acceptance via Stripe, Adyen, Opn Payments, 2C2P internationally.
- Compliance / certs: PBOC-regulated (China); partner-gateway compliance abroad.
- Research status: Researched
